How to Creatively Kill Time at an Airport.

Flying can be a fun and exciting experience, but it can also be a bit of a drag, especially when you have to wait at the airport for hours. If you're looking for ways to creatively kill time at the airport, here are a few ideas:

Here are a few ideas:

  1. Download a fitness app and track your steps. This is my 2nd favorite thing to do at the airport. Similar to folks who power walk in the malls. I power walk through out the airport. I try to get at least one mile in before I do my #1 favorite activity.

  2. Browse the bookstores. Getting lost in a random book while waiting for my flight is my favorite thing to do. Some airports have a buy back program. If you buy a book there and return it at the same place, you will get a discount on the next book you purchase.

  3. Terminal hopping. Some airports have specific terminals for local and international flights. Houston International Airport has European style bathrooms (long to the floor bathroom doors) in terminal D. Terminal B for domestic flights have short door bathroom stalls (sad).

  4. People-watch & luggage watch. One of the best things about airports is that they're full of people from all over the world. People-watching with an open mind (not passing judgment) can be a great way to pass the time and learn about different cultures. Now-a-days, I like to look for new types of luggage to see what other people have to make traveling more efficient.

  5. Record a vlog. I travel with a small tripod, a usb-c podcasting mic, and my phone. I like to find a quiet, sunny spot to record. It’s especially nice because I want to record my thoughts and feelings while they’re still fresh in my mind.

  6. Look for the quirky. Singapore is world famous for their award winning airport. They have a movie theatre, rooftop swimming pool, and koi ponds. I usually find these quirky and awesome things because of #1.

  7. Airport lounges. I saved this for last because not everyone wants to pay for this service. I get two airport lounge passes with United because I have the Chase United Explorer credit card. I typically save these passes into United’s airport lounges when I am traveling internationally. I used it when I landed in Japan from the US. It was perfect because they have showers, robes, sushi, and “complimentary” alcohol. I don’t drink, so I wish there was something more for people who don’t drink.

Waiting for a flight can be a boring and tedious experience. But it doesn't have to be! These are just a few ideas for how to creatively kill time at the airport. With a little planning, you can make your layover a productive and enjoyable experience.
